MP pays tribute to Land Army
Girls

Madeleine
Moon MP was delighted to present three Women’s Land Army Veterans’
Badges on Christmas Eve morning. In the photographs
are
Violet
Elizabeth Bishop,
with family and friends and Renee Ella Reed, both of
Bridgend.
A third
badge was presented posthumously to Alan Hancock, in the company of
his Aunt Lydia Evans, of Kenfig Hill for his mother Edith Hancock
(nee Dawkins) who passed away last year.

Violet,
Renee and Edith served on farms in Devon, Wiltshire and Cornwall
during and just after the Second World War.
Madeleine
commented:
“It was
fascinating to listen to the stories of the hard work and often
physically cold and exhausting work the women undertook in the Land
Army. What was
equally fascinating was how much three ladies all enjoyed the work,
the comradeship and the challenges they faced. It is difficult to imagine how
today’s young women would react to these same
challenges”.
