Madeleine begins consultation on free to use cash machine

Madeleine Consults On Free To Use Cash Machine For Porthcawl

Local MP Madeleine Moon has today welcomed news that a free to use cash machine will be installed in Porthcawl and has asked local people to make suggestions on where this should be placed.

The free machine is part of a ground-breaking deal between banks, building societies, cash machine operator LINK, MPs and the Government to provide 600 new non-charging cash machines throughout the country.

Madeleine said: “I’m delighted that we are going to get a new free cash machine for Porthcawl. This will be of real benefit to local residents, who have previously had to pay to withdraw their cash, or go further afield. I want to ensure that the machine is installed in an area that provides as much benefit as possible to local residents.”

Clear signs will also have to be placed on every cash machine to show whether or not they charge a fee for withdrawals, allowing local people to decide which machines they wish to use. The aim of the agreement is to help people on lower incomes to start up bank accounts while ensuring that they can access those accounts as easily and cheaply as possible.

Madeleine continued: “The free cash machines already in use are enabling over 260,000 residents in low-income areas around the UK to access cash more easily. I have been campaigning in Parliament both for increased access to free cash machines in areas like Porthcawl and for cash machines throughout the Bridgend Constituency to carry clear signs to show people whether they charge fees or not. I’m very pleased that this campaigning has paid off.”

Madeleine concluded: “I would welcome suggestions on the location for this machine, either by email: moonm@parliament.uk or in writing to my constituency office: 47 Nolton Street, Bridgend, CF31 3AA
