Madeleine Moon MP - Working hard for Bridgend
“Parliament & You” - Local MPs bring Parliament to Aberkenfig
For many people, talking of constitutional reform is not much different to watching paint dry, but for the 50 people who turned up to an event organised by two local MPs, it was a recipe for a lively and entertaining discussion.“Parliament and You” was the latest in a series of public discussions held by Huw Irranca-Davies and Bridgend MP Madeleine Moon. The event, held in Aberkenfig’s Bible church, was intended to give local people a say on how they would like to see Parliament, and politics in general, develop.
Huw, MP for Ogmore, said “The high turnout shows that people across our communities really care about the work of Parliament. It was an exciting debate throughout and people really got into it.
“This is exactly the kind of thing that MPs should be doing. Nobody wants their MPs to be locked away in Westminster, they should be out there talking to people, getting their opinions and taking them back to Parliament.
“Madeleine and I will continue to run such events across Bridgend and Ogmore, and I urge people to keep a lookout for them: come along and get involved!
The arguments put forward by those who attended the meeting will be put into a pamphlet before being given to the Prime Minister himself.
Huw concluded:
“I know that Gordon Brown shares my views that it is important to give the people a say on the issues that affect them – and as such I’m very much looking forward to presenting him with local views on these important issues.
