Madeleine Presents Volunteer of the Year Awards

WALES VOLUNTEER OF THE YEAR AWARDS

Bridgend MP Madeleine Moon has presented local residents with their 'Volunteer of the Year' Awards.

The Volunteer of the Year Awards were handed to Wendy Brigg, Age Concern Bridgend and Carrie Ebdon for their work with the Sharing Arts Project in the Rees Centre, Kenfig Hill and to Gill Widdrington in the Trinity Care Club Porthcawl.

Wendy, as Chair of Age Concern Bridgend, provides Benefits information and advice, helps fill in forms and organises fundraising.  The Sharing Arts Project supports disabled people to carry out creative activities.  The work on display was of such a high standard I asked members of the group to design my Christmas card 2007.

Gill helped set up Trinity Care Club in Trinity Church Porthcawl with a team of six volunteers, all with learning disabilities. They visit elderly and housebound people to do their weekly shopping. Gill is also known for her work with St Johns Ambulance, Scouts and Sunday School.

Madeleine said: These awards highlight the fact that there is a real depth to our community here in Bridgend. To be able to present these
awards and recognise the fantastic work of these local people is a real pleasure. I hope that their example will lead to even more people giving up their time to help others."
