Madeleine Visits Porthcawl Primary School To Congratulate Winning Team

On Friday 8th June, local MP Madeleine Moon MP, Cllr Dan Evans and Cllr Alana Davies met students from Porthcawl Primary School.

The students have recently competed in the Formula 1 Technology Challenge, held at the National Exhibition Centre in Birmingham. The students designed their own 'Demon Speed Racer' using computer software and the winners even got the chance to race their car in the final.

Madeleine said: "This project is a fantastic way of teaching students about IT, graphics, design and manufacturing, as well as teaching them about teamwork." The entries were judged on a presentation, including a design portfolio, to a panel of international judges. The Team was awarded second place overall in the Junior F1 in schools National Final.

Madeleine concluded: “The challenge of researching a design for an F1 car using computer software to create a racer was a complex task. Designing, creating and eventually racing the car was a huge achievement and one which the team should be very proud of. I am delighted that they came so close to winning.”

The members of the team were: Andrew Harman, Zoë Windos, Bethany Payne, James Needs, Hayden Mcmeekin and Rachael Mcmeekin.
