Coffee Crime and Chat
Local MP Madeleine Moon has again teamed up with South Wales Police and community groups to talk with students from Porthcawl Comprehensive School
about safety held at the Seabank Hotel on 19 October 2007.
Madeleine was joined by:
-
Superintendent Tim Jones and officers from South Wales Police
-
the Samaritans
-
Bridgend Women’s Aid
-
Victim Support South Wales
-
Youth Offending Team
-
WGCADA drug and alcohol team
-
Street Pastors
-
the Probation Service.
The ‘Coffee, Crime and Chat’ events have proved successful in the past, with each
group on hand to offer advice and answer any questions that the 6th formers have.
Madeleine said: “This is the 4th Coffee, Crime and Chat event that we have held and they are proving to be a big success. They give students the
opportunity to discuss personal safety, not just for when they are in and around Bridgend, but for wherever their future studies or careers take them.”
Previous coffee crime and chat events have been held with students from Bryntirion, Brynteg and Cynfig Comprehensive Schools. The event is a useful tool for the Police as well as students. Feedback from past events has been used by the
Police to establish potential trouble spots and to discover when and where young people feel most vulnerable.
Madeleine concluded: “I would like to thank Superintendent Tim Jones, and South Wales Police officers and all the community groups and students for
their involvement in this event. This is a proactive way for our young people to feel safer in their own community and I look forward to holding more initiatives like this in the
future.”
