Big Changes in Water Industry for Wales says MP

1.2 million Dwr Cymru household customers recently had notification that from 1 October 2011 Dwr Cymru will be taking ownership of any private sewers or lateral drains from householders.

Madeleine Moon MP says:

This is good news for householders in Wales and a big challenge for Dwr Cymru who are asking all their customers to bear with them while they prioritise work within their budget.

This transfer means a near doubling of Dwr Cymru’s sewer network throughout Wales and an enormous backlog of work to repair sewers and drains which are in poor condition to bring them up to an acceptable standard.

Any problem areas known as ‘hot spots’ have been highlighted and in the Bridgend  constituency the areas are Pyle Inn Way, Pyle; Heol Y Bardd, Bridgend; Trem y Mor, Brackla; Caw Bracla, Brackla  and Coychurch Road, Bridgend. If you know of any other problem areas which are not already identified by Dwr Cymru they would like to be made aware of them.”

Not all of the sewer network is transferring to Dwy Cymru, the sewage pumping stations will transfer gradually up to 1 October 2016 and any drain that serves just one property will remain the responsibility of the property owner.
