MADELEINE MOON MP SUPPORTS AFGHAN ACTION

A  Christmas sale of unique, traditional and modern hand-made carpets will take place in Nolton Parish Church Hall at lunchtime on Friday 23 November 2007, from 12 noon to 2pm.  This will be the second time this year that these beautiful carpets have been on sale in Bridgend by Afghan Action, a registered charity.

Madeleine said:  β€œThe plight of the Afghan people has been broadcast around the world and I have talked to many politicians about their desperate situation.  These men and women need employment rather than handouts.  I attended a previous Afghan Action event in the House of Commons and fully support this venture. This issue has been raised by Bridgend constituents and I invite everyone to come along and support this event.”

Afghan Action opened a factory and training school in Kabul in September 2005 and 2 years later now employs 80 people with 30 more in training. Money raised through carpet sales and donations support the Afghan men and women – mainly aged between 14 and 20 – working and training in the factory. Also the money helps pay for daily classes in reading and writing, on-site health care and midday meals that are provided. Please go to their website for more information at www.afghanaction.com
