Local MP Criticises Sun's Decision
Local MP Madeleine Moon has today criticised the Sun's decision to ditch its' support for the Government and come out in favour of David Cameron and the Conservatives.
Madeleine Moon commented that: "It is an extremely arrogant and clearly pre-planned decision by the Sun. The British people, not the Sun newspaper, will decide the outcome of the general election."
"I do not believe that this decision is based on the policies announced yesterday in Gordon's speech, or the important actions taken by Gordon and Alistair over the past year to save the banking system and steer us out of recession, decisions which the Conservatives got wrong."
"While the proprietor of the Sun may have his own agenda - I believe that when the paper's readers look back on the progress that has been made over the past 12 years, including the massive improvements to our health and education system they will make up their own mind. The British public and my constituents in Bridgend will face a decision at the next election, and I have faith in them that they will choose hope and progress over austerity and conservatism."
In yesterday's speech to Labour Party conference, Gordon Brown made a number of big policy announcements, including the creation of a National Care Service and free homecare for the elderly with no more means testing.
Further good announcements included the People's Bank in the post office, backed by credit union loans to rescue people from loan sharks and support the nation's post office network. Further more the promise to provide 10 hours of free nursery time for the 250,000 neediest two-year-olds, and the promise to fix into law the Government's commitment to pay 0.7% of GDP in aid.
