Madeleine Hosts International Women's Day Celebration.

International Women's Day coffee morning was a sell out last Saturday at Nolton Church Hall, where everyone enjoyed the amusing and frank life stories from guest speakers Barbara Wilding, Chief Constable, Dr Jo Farrar, Chief Executive BCBC, Jan Battrick, Headteacher Corneli, Anne Morgan High Sheriff and Gwyneth Poacher of Sandville. The speakers represented women who had made it to the top and it was fascinating to listen to the negative attitudes to women making progress in their chosen fields.
Following the speakers the group LACE, 6th form pupils from Porthcawl Comprehensive School, entertained everyone with their sensational acapella singing.
"I am sure everyone has enjoyed this morning, listening to these inspirational women and how they overcame many obstacles, to become leaders in their chosen profession. International Women's Day celebrates the economic, political and social achievements of women and makes us all aware that there is still more to do." said Madeleine.
The coffee morning was open to anyone who wished to attend and was widely advertised but only one man, The Reverend Michael Komar chose to attend. The proceeds from the entrance fee and raffle went to Bridgend Women's Aid and the delicious Fair-trade coffee and biscuits were kindly donated by Sainsbury's Supermarket, Bridgend.
