Madeleine Moon MP congratulates volunteers in the House of Commons

Make A Difference DayMadeleine Moon MP congratulated the work of volunteers in the House of Commons this week during questions to Ministers in the Cabinet Office.

Mrs. Moon was speaking about the value of ‘Make a Difference Day’ organised by Community Service Volunteers on October 29th and the volunteers she met when she spent an hour volunteering in the Marie Curie Cancer Care charity shop in Brackla with Manager Phil Pick and volunteers Terry Gunning, Tracy Jones and Abbie Owen.

Madeleine said

“It was a real pleasure to spend time with the volunteers at the Marie Curie Cancer Care. I was impressed by the work of the volunteers in the shops  and told the Minister that volunteers like Abbie Owen are a real inspiration. Abbie, who is unemployed, gives her time to help others, but has also gained valuable experience from volunteering. She is hard-working and would be an asset to an employer.”

“During the difficult economic times we are facing, volunteering can be a way of getting experience. The anxiety of unemployment can be alleviated to some extent through the social contact volunteering offers and the valuable experience that can be gained. CSV offers free work and training programmes to help people maximise their potential. As a trustee of CSV, I have seen at firsthand what a difference this can make to people’s lives.”

“CSV also provides volunteering opportunities for young people who have just left school or university. If you are looking for something to do during a gap year or know someone who is, more information is available through http://dmtrk.net/t/B8-KACY-16CEKK9B/cr.aspx.”
