Madeleine Moon MP visits KPC
Bridgend MP Madeleine Moon visited KPC Youth & Community last week to meet with Alison Mawby, Project Manager and volunteers from a local Company who have nominated KPC as their charity for the coming year.
KPCY is just surviving and despite the uncertain future they are facing Alison was upbeat and determined to find any funding available to help them keep the centre open.
“I keep in touch with KPC and visit as often as I can and know the difficulties they are facing. Everyone in the community knows of KPC and the many clubs and courses they run for the benefit of the youngsters and wider community. I spoke with a group this morning using the computer suite receiving training and support in job searches and compiling CVs and they were full of praise for the staff who were helping them achieve the skills they need to succeed in the job market.”
New courses evolve when a need in the community is identified recently a daytime session of messy play for babies and toddlers has started and where Mums get to meet new friends and chat over a cup of coffee. Also Zumba classes and Rebound sessions for kids, teens and adults are now on the programme.
KPC was established in 1998 and despite its recognised positive effect on the community is struggling. Alison spoke about their EU funding that is ending in December and the proposal for cutting the centre opening hours in the next few months. KPC are continually thinking of ways to fundraise, their popular Golf Day is coming up on 23 June and there is a list on their wall of items that people can donate, such as ink cartridges, postage stamps, coins, foreign notes. Also donations of unwanted clothes, shoes, hats and items for resale on E-bay.
The Vibrant Volunteer team I met were looking at the buildings to prioritise what work to carry out and what was most in need. They provide the manpower but need the materials for the work. If you can help or give donations to KPC please contact them on 01656 749219 or visit their website for more information: http://www.kpcyouth.com
