MP meets with Ruth Marks, Older People's Commissioner for Wales

Bridgend MP Madeleine Moon welcomed Ruth Marks to the Bridgend Constituency in July. Ruth Marks is the first Commissioner for Older People, a post which was created in April 2008, and is a world first, to promote and safeguard the interests of people who are aged 60 and over in Wales.
Madeleine said:
"Our discussions covered many subjects concerning older people and the care which they receive. I was impressed by Ruth's determination and enthusiasm to promote the end of age discrimination and to encourage good practice in the treatment of older people from public bodies.
I hope to strengthen our relationship in the future and to provide any help to the Commissioner through my work in Westminster to ensure older people are treated with dignity and respect."
The Commissioner has legal powers that allow her to review a range of public bodies, although she will not normally intervene in individual cases.
The views of older people are important and you can tell her about your experiences of services you have received or about issues you think are vital to older people in Wales. Contact details: Telephone: 08442640670 or email: ask@olderpeoplewales.com - or visit website:www.olderpeopleswales.com
