MP supports campaign for release of Fensuagro Six

Madeleine Moon MP attended a meeting hosted by Unite the Union to celebrate the release of Rosalba Gaviria, a Colombian trade unionist and former political prisoner.

Madeleine said:

I was delighted to meet and welcome Rosalba to Wales at the UNITE’s offices in Cardiff, last Thursday evening.  Rosalba was in prison for more than two years and was released in June this year following a Justice for Colombia campaign.  Her husband Alerio came to Wales last year to raise awareness about her case while she was in prison.

Rosalba talked about her personal experiences in Mocoa Prison and is now campaigning for the release of the FENSUAGRO SIX. The Fensuagro six are the members of the Colombian agricultural workers’ trade union who are detained in Mocoa Prison in Putumayo. The cases against them are based on the testimonies of paid informants and unreliable evidence.  They are just six of more than 75 Fensuagro members currently imprisoned for supposed “rebellion”.

JFC have put a letter together to go to the Ambassador of Colombia in London asking that they release these six and others without delay. They are asking for our help to support this campaign to free Colombia’s political prisoners. I have attached a copy of the letter you can send to this email and I would be grateful if you could pass the letter amongst anyone you know who would be willing to send a copy. A letter is attached or you can support the campaign through this link http://www.justiceforcolombia.org/campaigns/fensuagro/

As Rosalba shows, these letters do have an impact.
