Madeleine Moon MP - Working hard for Bridgend
Madeleine Moon MP yesterday gave her support to the
‘I am not a number’ campaign organised by the trade union Prospect. Prospect have launched the campaign to raise awareness of the impact of the Government’s plans public spending cuts and the loss of 330,000 civil service and private sector jobs.
At the meeting, Madeleine met scientists, engineers, an environmental expert, a defence researcher and an air traffic controller who all fear the prospect of losing their jobs as a result of the cuts.
Madeleine said
“I am supporting the ‘I am not a number’ campaign because it draws attention to the individuals whose skills we need, but who may be lost as a result of the irresponsible and ill-thought policies of this Government. Behind the figures of budget cuts and job losses are skilled civil servants and this campaign is a valuable reminder of this.”
“It is easy to think of civil servants as people who shuffle paper, but the reality is that they are highly skilled specialists who fulfil essential roles such as researching treatments for diseases such as cancer, keeping our crowded airspace sage and supporting our armed forces. They are not just another number and should be valued for the contribution they make.”
