Last week Tesco held its 5th National Food Collection in conjunction with the Trussell Trust and FareShare. Bridgend MP Madeleine Moon was in the Bridgend Extra store on Friday afternoon supporting the food collection.

It was Tesco’s first week-long collection which was held in all their stores across the country between Monday 24th and Saturday 29th November.

Madeleine said:

The shoppers in Bridgend Tesco’s were generous and supportive and everything they donated to the food collection Tesco topped up by another 30% donation.  We have a tremendous problem with more people coming to food banks for help. Across the Bridgend County Borough there are now eight food banks feeding local people in crisis.

If you need help frontline care professionals such as domestic violence charities, health visitors, social workers, CAB, The Wallich and Job Centre Plus can identify people in crisis and issue foodbank vouchers. Foodbank clients can redeem their vouchers for three days emergency food and volunteers can talk to clients over a cup of tea or coffee to signpost them to agencies able to solve the longer-term problem.

Please visit the Bridgend Foodbank website:

to see how you can help with donations, food gifts or volunteering.
