It is only the first week back from the Christmas Recess and already the festive period seems to be a distant memory. The debate over the Withdrawal Agreement was picked up from
where it was left so abruptly before Christmas and, to quote the Prime Minister, nothing has changed. It would appear that there is still no majority for the Agreement in the Commons
and several defeats of the Government have seen Parliament finally begin to assert itself over Brexit. I would urge you to go through and read the arguments made in the debates on
both sides of the debate to see why and how the mood seems to have changed in Parliament.
Elsewhere I spent some of the week in Brussels making my first formal visit to NATO as President of the Parliamentary Assembly. It was a visit that was both productive and eye opening, and a good start for putting a British stamp on my term in office.
