This week the Government looked more indecisive and weaker than ever. It began with the debacle over cancelled ferry contracts handed out in case of a no-deal Brexit, and it got worse when the Secretary of State for Work and Pensions admitted that the Government’s Universal Credit system was contributing to food bank usage. The week bottomed out as the Government was once again defeated on their Brexit policy, leaving the Prime Minster with no discernible policy as exit day draws near. Again I would urge you to read the arguments being made on all sides to understand why this impasse has been reached.
I end the week travelling to Germany to attend the Munich Annual Security Conference. While there I intend to engage with our allies and ensure the UK has a voice on the world stage and plays a part in shaping the security environment for the better.
